Named after Agnes MacPhail who was the first woman elected to the Canadian Parliament. MacPhail was a member of the CCF party (Co-operative Commonwealth Federation), a predecessor of the NDP, she was an active supporter of Co-operatives. MacPhail House was purchased in 1965.
